3 Books to Inspire

I probably have already said this, but I love reading. I like to keep cultured, and have a love for history, art and language. I have only done one post on My Book Collection mentioning 20 books to read for this year, but this year is closing sooner than I think! I thought it would be a good idea to do a book review on one of them, or on a favourite book of mine.

1. One of my FAVOURITE books is “The Undomestic Goddess” written by Sophie Kinsella. She is one of the best writers out there! She is extremely exceptional at English language and comes up with witty characters. So she writes with great articulation and vocalisation.

This is a story about a office lady working for Carter Spink. 29 year old Samantha Sweeting is a high-powered lawyer in London working onwards and upwards for that career climb to be a partner for the firm. She works long hours, and has no home life putting all her energy into her work life, until…..

One day she makes a terrible mistake. Costing her career!!!!! She gets terrified thinking she will be fired from her hardworking job.

Instead of speaking to the boss she walks right out of the office, gets on the first train she sees, and then finds herself at a stately house in the countryside where they have mistaken her for their maid! She ends up working as a maid for a big, beautiful house in the middle of nowhere and works there instead.

Not knowing how to turn on the oven, Samantha learns how to do home duties, things she could never do before in her life!!!!!

She learns how to bake, cook, do laundry, iron, etc and during this time learns to love this new life in a wholly unexpected way.

Her employers don’t know she’s really a lawyer, educated at Cambridge with an IQ of 158 from London. So, she learns to live the life of a housekeeper.

A lawyer turned housekeeper is an interesting turn of events and the ending is even more surprising!

This book does NOT disappoint! Does she go back to her job? Or does she keep on working as a housemaid?

You can go to this website to buy. In England it is only $8 pounds.

It is actually a number one bestseller! And I can see why!!!!!!

To me, it’s the greatest heart-warming piece of chick-lit! Full of laughs and fun! Kinsella is full of genuine charm in writing this book. I read this book within like TWO days! It is that funny and contemporary!

2. Shopaholic Abroad

I am currently reading the second book in the shopaholic series. My favourite series ever!!!!! Everyone knows the first book, “Confessions of a shopaholic” and this second book is more about shopping!!!!!

Becky Bloomwood has been offered a job in New York! So there’s The Museum of Modern Art! The Guggenheim! The Metropolitan Opera House! And Becky Bloomwood does mean to go to them all, honestly. It’s just that it seems silly to not check out a few other famous places first, like……

Saks, Bloomingdales and Barneys! Yep! The famous SHOPS!!!!!

And one of those fantastic sample sales where you can get a Prada dress for $10, or was it $100!!???

Get ready for the BIGGEST culture shop of your life.

3. The third book I want to talk about is actually based on ancestors of mine!!!! It is called “Separate Lives” by Gwen Chessell.

She became interested in the story of Sir George and Lady Eliza Grey when writing on Sir Richard Spencer (my greatx4 grandfather) who is Eliza Grey’s father.

Here is a snapshot of the blurb:

I am only just starting on the book, so I can’t give a detailed review just yet, but this book intrigues me because of the history.

Eliza Lucy Spencer was born early in November 1823 and was welcome in a close-knit family, and she joined her two brothers, Hugh Seymour and Edward, and her sisters, Mary Ann and little Augusta. Eliza’s father was Captain Richard Spencer (as mentioned previously), a sailor hero of the Napoleonic Wars and perhaps the illegitimate son of Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire, and her mother a member of the local gentry.

The Spencer family lived in a large house above the harbour, but picturesque little haven encircled since early medieval times by the arms of the ancient Cobb. Living in Lyme Regis.

In 1830 when Eliza was seven years old, her father had decided that they emigrate to Australia. They thought of New South Wales or Tasmania. They ended up settling at Strawberry Hill Farm in Albany, Western Australia.

(I got a picture taken of myself here when I was 29. On my “Travels in Australia” post. I was so glad because my grandmother had a photo of herself here as well. )

So, in February 1833, the life of the family changed abruptly. On 22 February Richard Spencer was knighted the accolade of the Royal Hanoverian Guelphic Order being in King William IV’s personal gift to him.

The town of Albany was the first settlement on the western side of Australia. It had been established in 1826. In 1793, Captain George Vancouver had taken possession of the region and had given the name King George’s sound to the Seward approach to what would become Albanys harbour, in honour of King George III.

The promontory overlooking the harbour opening off the Sound and Vancouver named this after George III’s grand-daughter, Princess Charlotte, calling it Princess Royal Harbour.

There is more information on Wikipedia also.

If you love history, especially in Australia, this book you will LOVE! Gwen writes historical biographies with a special emphasis on 19th century colonial personalities.

It is a very interesting book, and I would love to write just like her! She writes with a gripping and engaging flair! And I was so excited to receive a reply from her when I decided to email her! How wondrous! She lives in England and visits Australia to do author talks every now and then. So, like I said if you have a fondness for Australian history/literature, THIS you will utterly be ardent about.

Irresistible Me

Now, This has been what I have been DYING to show you all week!!!!!!

I received an email from Blair at Irresistible Me in New York and when I received an email from a company in New York!!!!!! I was OVER the moon! And even more excited that they have been reading my blog!

I am very eager to share with you two products that they sent me in the post. I really liked the idea of hair extensions as my hair needs volume and a bit of pizz – az to it!

We decided on getting a Medium Brown coloured hair extension clips as my natural colour is a natural brown and the product is in 16 inch (140 g) just incase you are wondering.

I didn’t know how to clip in as it was my first time doing it!!!! And Blair so kindly sent me YouTube tutorials, so that I can learn how to do it properly.

When I received the package I was delighted with the colour as it looked nice and shiny and had a beautiful natural finish. It is in the Silky Touch range.

First off, I would like to say a bit about the company in which I am collaborating with.

Irresistible Me is an American Hair accessory company which has a wide range of hair extensions from pony tails to full lace wigs to clip in and tape in extensions. They currently have a 50% off Labour Day SALE. When you sign up with your email you get 20% off your first purchase!

Now, onto the best part!

I looked at these tutorials online and it helped ssoooo much!!!! I followed the order of the number of clips. For example, the one with four clips I clipped in first, and then the one with three was next and so on and so forth!

Here is a clip to help you when you need to put hair extension clips in.

They have their own YouTube channel in which many other girls share how they put theirs in. It is easy to choose the right shade as there are a number of them to choose from! Medium Brown was a PERFECT choice as it naturally worked with my hair colour! I am so excited to receive these as I can wear them out dining or partying!

Here is a BEFORE photo shot of just my natural hair.

I clipped in each section and it filled out and created SOOOO much volume!

I love how it has created a LUSCIOUS look!

And it has given MUCH length…..

I also received a pony tail clip on the right side of the package which is a weft that belongs to the whole set but I decided to just put this one in on its own in this picture. They put it separately so that clients can check the colour and length. Thanks to Blair she had to kindly explain this to me!

It added a “curl” to my naturally straight hair which looked voluminous once clipped in.

Here is before without the ponytail extension.

And this is after…….

Here is a clip showing how to clip in pony tail extensions.

You can follow Irresistible Me on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

They also are on Pinterest! Which is perfect for creating a HAIR board on your account!

I want to thank Blair so much for emailing me and allowing me to review their products, I appreciate it kindly for trying it out! And I am very happy with the result. What a very well renowned genuine company, I must say.

They are very helpful when choosing the perfect colour and length. So, hop on over to their website and check out their beautiful accessories!

A Day in York

Today I went on a road trip to a small town not far from Merredin. Just for something to do on a Saturday! It was about an hours drive and stopped off for a morning coffee at a cafe in Kellerberrin.

I had a great time roaming the small Main Street and was astounded by the feel of the place. The town has a heart feeling feel and I enjoyed looking at all the old architecture.

There is many historical information on just the one town!

I grabbed a brochure of the map of the place and had a look at the local history of books in the visitor centre.

My dad had to do an outside broadcast for RadioWest at the Town Hall, so during that time I went antique and book shopping!

The building is just magnificent.

This was inside the Town Hall building……

I just love looking around!!!!! And across from this building was an antique store. I want to share with you some pieces and findings!

This piece is a part of the Paragon collection. I still prefer Royal Albert and have the set of Old Country Roses, but Paragon still has its place.

And from becoming a royal fan this caught my sparkling eye!!!

This peice is enchanting and valuable.

And this is even better and personally a valuable peice.

I then went to Berkley – a bookstore where the fire brigade is. I didn’t buy anything but here’s a few shots of books that caught my eye.

Considering my interest in royalty, I would love to read this book for information on Queen Elizabeth I. I have an interest in reading on many topics, but this just sprung at me! I can’t wait to visit this bookshop again! It has a great range in History, Classics and Literature.

This just looks stunning…… And I ABSOLUTELY want to buy!!!!! 😍😍😍

What’s on my DEFINITE list is this…… My eyes popped when I saw the author, or writer I should say of Downton Abbey, Julian Fellowes has written a novel!!!!! This is definitely on top of my list.

Okay, that wasn’t a “few”….. But if you’re reading this I am sure you understand my love for reading and literature…..

Antiques and books is what I’m sticking to, to keep my life occupied!

I hope you enjoyed the photos I took on my day trip and have a lovely weekend!

Orange & Coriander Drizzle Cake

An interesting recipe to add to the RECIPES!!!!! I got it off The Great British Tea Party on Facebook, thanks to them!!!!

Orange & Coriander Drizzle Cake by Nancy Birtwhistle

This fruity bake has a whole orange whizzed up and added to the batter for a zesty teatime treat

Ingredients

1 large orange

175g golden caster sugar

2 tbsp coriander seeds

Coriander seeds Coriander seed kor-ee-and-er seed

The small, creamy brown seeds of the coriander plant give dishes a warm, aromatic and slightly…

50g polenta

175g butter

, softened

150g self-raising flour

1 tsp baking powder

3 eggs
For the decoration

1 orange

50g golden caster sugar

100g icing sugar

Method

To make the cake, put the orange in a saucepan, cover with water, bring to the boil and simmer for 1 hr or until you can pierce the orange easily with a knife.

Drain, leave to cool, then cut the orange into quarters. Cut each quarter in half so that you have 8 pieces, and remove any pips. Put 75g of the sugar in a small pan and add 100ml water and the orange pieces. Heat gently until the sugar has dissolved, then turn up the heat and simmer for 10 mins. Allow the orange to cool slightly, then either blitz with a stick blender or liquidise to a pulp. Crush the coriander seeds using a pestle and mortar or a spice grinder, then add to the warm orange pulp along with the polenta. Stir to combine, then leave to cool.

Heat oven to 190C/170C fan/gas 5. Grease and line the base and sides of a 22cm loose-bottomed cake tin. Put the butter, flour, baking powder, eggs and the remaining 100g caster sugar in a large mixing bowl along with the cooled orange pulp. Mix until thoroughly blended using an electric hand mixer. Spoon into the prepared tin and bake for 35-45 mins or until springy to the touch – a skewer inserted into the centre should come out clean. The cake should be pale in colour and just leaving the sides of the tin. Transfer to a wire rack and leave to cool.

Meanwhile, prepare the decoration. Using a potato peeler, peel half the zest from the orange into large strips, then slice very thinly so that you have lots of orange zest shreds (like you would for marmalade). Put the caster sugar and 100ml water in a small saucepan set over a low heat until the sugar has dissolved, then add the orange shreds. Bring to the boil, then simmer for 8-10 mins until the shreds are quite soft. Remove using a slotted spoon and set aside on a tray lined with baking parchment.

When the cake has cooled, sift the icing sugar into a small bowl. Juice the orange and add enough of it to the icing sugar to make a runny icing. Drizzle the icing over the cooled cake and scatter the orange shreds on top.

Northam Skin & Body Care Centre (Ella Bache)

Tuesday 11.15 – Nail Appointment in Northam….. Yay!!!!!! I have been wanting to have nice clean fresh nails with a French manicure polish for quite sometime! I decided to get it done at Ella Bache.

Ella Bache is a professional salon dealing with waxing, massage, facials, and so on. There are a number of them in Western Australia and can be found in Ellenbrook, Mount Lawley, and Belmont.

Check out Northams Facebook page

The young lady that did my nails was exceptional, and I would love to have her again!!! We had great conversation while getting them done!

So, I am set!!!!

This was one of the important things I wanted to get done this week, so I feel like I am ready, as a lady, for my week!

Next time I go there I am definitely getting a facial or massage done!!!! Would be heavenly!!!!!

😍🌷💐

I walked about Northam town and browsed through a few shops! It is a city but part of the country as well….. Let me just say, there’s much more here than Merredin!!!!

And I love browsing antique collectibles!!!! Especially if it is Royal Albert! This isn’t Royal Albert but is still a nice set in white and blue.

Then, I drove back home with a stop off at McDonalds cafe for coffee for an extra hit!

It was nice to get home and unwind with a magazine and the telly on!

Homemaking tips to simplify your life!

What makes a happy home and a home happy?

“At the heart of any happy home is some one who is content bearing the fruit of love, joy, warmth and life in rich abundance.”

1. You are the centre of your home.

Married or single, you are the heart of your home!

Create a sanctuary where it feels homey.

How do I get organised at home you ask?

The Inspired Room is a great website to help you in organising and cleaning your house.

2. You are the comfort of your home.

This means you have the accountability of sheltering your cherished family. There are things you can do as a mother to keep, protect and teach your children.

I’ve always thought a housewife or Mum has the biggest job than anyone because your considered to be multiple things!

3. You are the adornment of your home!

Decorate your room with your favourite theme.

For example, I have created a “Royal” theme for my bedroom, because I have grown a fondness for the royal family, and like to keep a theme. My quilt is a Princess ivory quilt from Spotlight and when I move I will put up my three letters from the royals to keep the theme!

Here is an example of a “Paris” themed room!!!!

There are numbers of blogs on homemaking tips and advice!

I like the Small Notebook blog for basic tips on simplifying your home and space!

They say “Life is more simple with less stuff” and I wish I heeded to this because my room is cluttered with books, DVDS, and magazines! Sometimes I just can’t help myself! I like to have a clean room but then again I like my STUFF!!!!!

I need to heed to Holding onto sentimental things to understand how to simplify my things! This is a great article on choosing the right things to keep in your room. I’m sure you will love it!

I also like:

How to decorate your apartment to feel less temporary and more like home

I love to decorate and put things around the house to make it look pretty!!!

I love this quote:

Homemaking isn’t about creating the perfect space, it’s about creating a space that feels like home.

It’s about creating a peaceful haven. I just got back from Queensland, and it was so nice to be back to my OWN bed and familiar surroundings.

It is good to keep good homemaking and organisational skills to essentially live a better life! I find that once I have vaccummed and added fresh flowers that it leaves such a great feel to the place!

I love the idea of homemaking and creating a haven where I spend most of my time! You need to create a space where you can breathe, live and love!

Your family would appreciate what you do in your home, and how you do things will reflect.

I have always said, your character reflects in your bedroom”….. Or something along those lines!

What theme you choose says a lot about your character as well!

I bought my white bed from IKEA which is an excellent website for choosing furniture and designing your room! IKEA home furnishings is great to tour inside the store, and get ideas for designing your bedroom, living room or kitchen!

Also, Here is 150 beautiful designer bedrooms to inspire you which helps you choose the right wallpaper, curtains, mirrors, etc!

I have vertical blinds currently and do not like them! I don’t think they reflect my character….. I like the idea of Austrian curtains as its more cozier and adds warmth!

To me, a house is not a home without the people in it, literature, furnishings, and laughter!

So, create your home with some of these homemaking tips and start simplifying!

You will feel a lot better after you do!

Have you had a look around your house and seen that anything needs improving?

Do you love to decorate like I do?

Pilgrimage to Port Douglas

It’s wednesday,….. And I have arrived in Cairns….. A three hour sleep felt like several hours! I didn’t feel so tired anymore from road tripping through Western Australia. I got tired by the time I got to Perth airport, and I felt I needed a mist spray for my face! I felt wrecked! Haha!

I shopped at the airport, of course, and bought The Little Paris Bookshop (which has had raved reviews and is an international bestseller) but not many shops were open at 11 o’clock at night! I was travelling with my Mum and we had Original Pizza at The Dome with tea for two. It was delicious and hit the spot before boarding for Cairns.

When arriving at Cairns it was humid and muggy and I wasn’t used to the weather! We got picked up and drove to Port Douglas. Yes! Another holiday in Port Douglas as per my previous blog in 2013!

We had breakfast at a local cafe and I admitingly had TWO lattes! We then went back home and I have been lounging about in my white and orange casual dress watching television and doing random activities such as reading magazines and adult colouring in!

Welcome to Port Douglas!

The laid back city and country place in the Northern Tropics of Queensland. It is just paradise! And has a totally different feel to WA!
Have a look at my bedroom! 😍

It is so cosy and homey – I love it!

Thursday = shopping in the mall.

I bought three favourite beauty products!

L’Oreal liquid foundation in golden beige

and

L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Rose Creme, which I am absolutely loving! The other lipstick is in the same Matte range but is a little more glossier which is Spring Rosette.

I have already been snorkelling, submarine riding and helicopter riding, so I don’t mind if I don’t do all that! This holiday I just want to shop, have coffee and see the beach!

I have eyed out a few books in Whileaway Bookshop and cafe (my favourite possy!!) and want to buy so much!!!! As per usual! Here are a few things I want to get:

I am DYING to see the film, Me before you. My mum saw it in Bunbury and she said it is a bit of a tear jerker. It looks like my kind of romantic movie……

There’s also this novel that has intrigued me as its my dream destination!!!!!

It looks ssssooooo good!!!!! Well, there’s a “few” items I want. I am trying not to buy so much as its a bad habit of mine! Maybe I need to learn on budgeting…. And heed to financial advice!

I have already done the Sky Rail (I’m going to let my parents do it on their own!) I am going to just do coffee and the beach, and take in all the scenery and enjoy till Tuesday!

This is my Aunty Jenni’s house – it is like a resort!!!!! And I love the pool- I had a swim yesterday!

There is MUCH more to do, and I don’t know what I will be doing the next couple of days but it has just been relaxing, and lots of driving around Port Douglas!

❤️🎀❤️

Exquisite Emmalisa

P.S. An extra added Beauty Product I have bought today is the Maybelline New York Colossal Go Extreme Leather Black Mascara.

Plus! This is what I’m doing now!

Along with a delicious Cherry Ripe ice cream from Wicked Icecreams to top it off!

Have a lovely weekend!

Fortnum & Mason Favourites

fortnum-and-mason

I have come across a few favourites……. Well, ALOT actually……

I couldn’t help myself but google Fortnum and Mason today. It has been a dream the past couple of years to visit London, and enjoy a high-tea there. It is on my LIST! I haven’t visited London just yet, but I know that I will get there one day! There is something about that place, coffee shops, museums, art galleries, bookshops, and so much MORE!!!! I enjoy watching “Ladies of London” every now and then too.

Find here a number of items I found on F&M’s website – ROYAL COLLECTION

I am in LOVE with this pink mug, Halycon Days Her Majesty The Queens 90th Birthday Mug in Pink

QUEENS 90th PINK MUG

Halycon Days is a London brand. It is an English fine bone china mug that is finished with an intricate trellis design. Featuring a wreath of golden flourishes that frames the inscription ‘In Celebration of the 90th Birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, 21st April 2016’, this mug makes a wonderful addition to any home.

I am LOVING the GIFT section. They have a WIDE range of Bath and Body, Skincare, Handbags and purses, fragrances, jewellery, scarfs, flowers, tea, china and silverware, and hampers! There is so much to shop!!!!

There are TWO kinds of tea that I want to buy.

Queen Anne Blend Tea

Created in 1907, this popular blend is named after the monarch who was on the throne in the year that Fortnum & Mason actually began. The smooth blend of carefully selected TGFOP Assam and Ceylon FBOP teas produces a strong, smooth tea that is refreshing at any time of day.

QUEEN ANNE BLEND TEA

Royal Blend Tea

This luxury tea is classic. It has ceylon and assam. It was actually first blended for King Edward VII in the summer of 1902, Royal Blend has been popular ever since for its smooth, almost honey-like flavour.

ROYAL BLEND TEA

There is also a tea towel that I absolutely ADORE!

It is ‘Her Majesty The Queens 90th Birthday Tea Towel

This beautifully designed tea towel commemorates The Queen’s 90th in true royal fashion. Made in the UK from 100% cotton, this tea towel is finished in royal blue and features an inscription celebrating the UK’s longest reigning monarch.

QUEENS 90th TOWEL

and of course, I want to get a bag that represents……

F&M BAG

They even have a lunch box you can buy!!!!

So that’s just a few to add to my ever-growing list on what to buy. I think that when I DO get to London, I will probably need just about ten grand!!!!

Harrods and Selfridges here I come!!!! World-class shopping is EVERYTHING.

Harrods has Chanel Cosmetics such as the Soleil Tan De Chanel Bronzing Makeup Base. The velvety finish of this light cream-gel bronzer leaves your skin with a beautiful sun-bathed look. Wear it on its own, or for a hint of outdoors radiance, over or under your favourite CHANEL foundation.
