Completely Cosmetics (Part 4) Eyeliners

The function of the eyeliner is to frame and define the eyes.

I love the 60’s look with the BOLD eyeliner to accentuate the eyes.

You can use either pencil or liquid. I tend to use pencil for everyday use and liquid for evening and special occasions.

Liquid eyeliner can be a bit iffy and hard to apply. It only looks effective if you can create a VERY thin line.

I think you need to be picky when choosing liquid eyeliners.

Today I bought a Savvy By DB Kohl eyeliner in Granite.

It is a great everyday use eyeliner and only $5 at Priceline Pharmacy.

I will be using this NON – STOP!!!!! And there are more products on my shopping list.

What is your favourite eyeliner?

Do you like using eyeliners?

Completely Cosmetics (Part 2) Lipsticks

635981642845981865-843042002_girlthings

Lipsticks add a sheer touch by setting the tone and adding colour to the face. What colour you wear is vital and is key, for when you are either out shopping or dining out at a restaurant. You can choose so many different types of lipsticks, from L’Oreal, to Revlon, Mary Kay, Chanel, MAC, Sephora, Charlotte Tilbury, the list is endless.

I love to wear pinky tones, because I am really girly-girl, I could have pink everything but my room’s not pink! I am just definite at wearing pink lipstick, as it shows my personality. I hardly wear red, only for really special occasions.

The most luminous lipstick I love is the Queen Lipstick / Matte Revolution. It gives a full plump look and the colour is pretty and bright. It has a great matte lip effect, and is totally flattering.

Completely Cosmetics (Part 1) Finding the right foundation

beauty-products

When choosing a foundation you need to take into consideration your skin type and shades available. The colour you choose is VERY important. ALWAYS make sure that you test the foundation in natural light. When in a store or pharmacy the bright lights may not show the colour right.

makeup-ideas-and-brushes02

If you have oily skin, it is best to use OIL-FREE foundations, such as:

Revlon’s New Complexion Oil Free

The light weight formula gives you a perfectly smooth, even tones skin.

I love using MAC STUDIO FIX which I always buy from either the Myer or David Jones department store. It gives a total matte finish, which gives a flattering, natural look, and is $50.

Completely Cosmetics (Introduction)

top_banner_aus_cosmetics

Australian consumers spend well over $20 million a year on cosmetics. Studies show that physical appearance plays an important part in our social interactions, interpersonal relations and job success.

Traditionally, cosmetics were used simply to beautify or decorate the skin.

Cosmetic counters are now stocked high with potions and creams that will rejuvenate our skin, prevent wrinkles or modify the ageing process.

Cosmetics have actually been used for over 4000 years! Greeks used lanolin (which is sheep’s wool) as a moisturizer in AD 100, Romans took milk baths and also used powder to make themselves whiter! Powder was also used in the Elizabethan era.

The purpose of cleansers is to remove dirt and makeup from the skin. There are three types of cleansers available. Soaps should not be used on the face, although soaps are very effective for cleaning the skin.

For example, you can use Neutrogena – Liquid Fresh Cleanser and Makeup remover.

To buy on the Neutrogena website click HERE. I use this product daily even if I don’t wear makeup that day!

Music for the soul (lovely thoughts)

music-notes

Because its the weekend, and I didn’t have anything new planned to write about, I thought I would do something a little different! I have just finished watching the Bulldogs beat the Sydney Swans in the Grand Final, and I am stoked! As The Bulldogs trained near where I lived in Footscray, so it was my hometown that won the Grand Final!!!!! I feel so proud, and happy about it!

So after the Grand final I put on “Belle’s Magical World” a sequel to Beauty and the Beast – (well, it’s more like short stories) for something light hearted to watch, and a particular song that came on, I really liked the lyrics, so I thought I would share! Because it is beautiful, lovely and sweet…… and poetic!

A Little Thought

Did you ever wonder what it’s like
To wonder from a different point of view?
To try and see life differently
While doing what somebody else might do?
Imagine seeing through a set of different eyes
You just might be surprised
You just might realize
That somebody might be wondering
And wonder what it’s like to be like you

A little thought
A little care
A little “when you ever need me, I’ll be there”
A little give
A little take
A little “it’s ok to make a small mistake”
A little time
A little space
A little chance to help somebody find their place
It isn’t much, but it means a lot
It’s not a little thing to have a little thought

Here’s another song lyric that I like that you can read!

Listen with our hearts

There are times I think
That no one seems to listen
There are times I think they listen
but don’t hear
There are times I think they hear
But something’s missing
The thoughts behind the words aren’t clear
So, I think they’re saying
something they’re not saying
They think I mean something
I don’t mean at all
Do we raise our voice miscommunicating?
Or simply say nothing at all
Is there another way to say it
In a way that can be heard?
Let me see if I can put it into words

I can hear you, you can hear me
When we listen with our hearts
I understand you, you understand me
That’s the place where we can start
Words of kindness and forgiveness
Bring us closer, not apart
When we speak our minds
And listen with our hearts

I can hear you, you can hear me
When we listen with our hearts
I understand you, you understand me
That’s the place where we can start
Words of kindness and forgiveness
Bring us closer, not apart
When we speak our minds
And listen with our hearts

Do you play an instrument?

Do you love music? Or are a creative writer? Or ever had a go at writing songs?

Music is an art that has been used for generations and centuries for entertainment, cultural activities and pleasure. People love going to concerts, and theatre, and I was a BIG theatre enthusiast when living in Melbourne! Theatre is a massive thing there. Two Saturdays ago I was able to go to “The Sound of Music” in Perth, and I absolutely LOVED it!!!! Leisle has always been my favourite character and my favourite part is when she dances and sings with the boy singing “I am sixteen going on seventeen”!

Dressing Well

dressing-well

How do you feel about how you look?

Do you feel the need for a new makeover?

Do you feel like you need to put more effort in making yourself look more beautiful?

Beauty is a widely communicated topic world-wide. We have etiquette experts, leading lady’s in focusing on Makeup and Beauty, socialites in every city that talks about being beautiful in magazines, newspapers, articles are everywhere!

For a while now I have been wanting to target on “Dressing Well”. When I lived in Melbourne growing up I wore special dresses on a Sunday morning to church, and for years I wore only dresses on Sunday mornings, NEVER pants – that was Sunday nights. I used to love dressing up, and powdering my face. I didn’t wear makeup till I was about 16. I started with just eyeliner and lipgloss, but when I entered my early twenties I became obsessed with mascara, and eye-shadow, and contouring, etc.

When it comes to dressing, I have always liked lace kind of dresses – white lace or ivory laced dresses are my favourite because it is so effeminate, delicate and charming. I was a Cue enthusiast and people would brand me with that name! My first outfit I ever bought with my first pay in my first job was a CUE jacket and skirt, and I still have it after 10 plus years! I loved that outfit and wore it a lot.

I think if you have a corporate/administration job working in an office it is important to impress your bosses with the way you present yourself. I once put in a bit of effort and had a compliment from my boss! He said he was impressed! So, if you do work in an office environment it is imperative that you dress appropriately, and refine your look.

Print

Currently, Cue has a “wear to work” section on their website, and I think it is the best brand out there if you want to have a Corporate look.

A Work Look

You can pair a classic Black Cigarette Pant with a Georgette Ruffle Front Blouse.

Check out this Black Lace Full Hem Dress for $409. It comes in size 6 to 14. It is made from corded lace, features cap sleeves, a boat neckline and a full tulle skirt. The belt that comes with it is also Rose Gold.

There is also the Textured Lace Funnel Neck Dress for $339 which is a Zip front dress, has a funnel neckline, and a slight A line hem.

Dressing well involves getting your hair done as well.

Looking Irresistible involves getting yourself together, and finding the perfect outfit and making yourself look right. If you haven’t seen my post on the brand Irresistible Me, check out the difference of me with my normal hair to wearing the new hair extensions!!! There is such a difference! Making sure you wash your hair at least twice a week, doing a hair treatment or mask once a week and doing a blow wave or straightening your hair is beneficial, and its imperative that you do it regularly if you want to keep yourself well-groomed.

Tea Etiquette

old_country_roses_ls_1-2

They say that the traditional time for Afternoon Tea is Four o’clock, because it is between lunch and dinner, however any time between two and four o’clock is fine.

Here is a guide to show you how to have a traditional English Afternoon Tea:

When setting up your tea tray, it should consist of:

A Teapot

Tea Strainer (optional)

Creamer

Sugar bowl (with Sugar tongs – to serve the sugar cubes)

A small saucer (For lemon slice on the side) Or you may want to put some Classic Cream Scones on the side.

Guests cups and saucers

You don’t have to have a flash silver setting, if you are having a less formal setting, and you don’t have to go out to the department stores and buy the most expensive thing!!! It is nice to have either “Old Country Roses” Royal Albert collection or “Miranda Kerr for Royal Albert Friendship Tea for Two“, if its just with your best friend! It is so pretty because it has peonies printed on the teapot and teacup, and you can also get the mug too! This fine bone china is microwave safe and the banding is 22 carat gold plus there’s FREE shipping!

I especially like the Polka Rose Formal Vintage Teacup and Saucer as it is very pretty.

tea_party_table_mm_3

Etiquette & Manners

When hosting a proper afternoon tea, invitations are a must! So that the guests know what to wear, or what to bring. I recently just learned that afternoon tea is not the same thing as a “High Tea” – High Tea is actually what the servants had in grand estates at 6pm after they had given upstairs their afternoon tea.

Being well-mannered is a lovely thing to have. Learning how to conduct yourself at the dining table is essential, and is something that you learn over time. It is not something you learn over night (although if you are a quick learner, it can be easy to learn). It is important to practice graceful and splendid manners! and I have talked about etiquette in a few posts such as “How to be a Lady“, and “Easy Etiquette“.

Extra Tea Equipment

A gorgeous pretty table cloth would be essential to match with the china, if possible along with cloth or linen napkins.

If you choose to have scones, knives can be needed to cut the scones in half (but the proper british way is you merely break the scone in half with your fingers, I have hear using a knife isn’t really the proper way but people do still use them occassionally) and you can add a small bowl with strawberry jam for the scones. Or clotted cream – YUM!!! and don’t forget some forks if you are having CAKE!

The Tea Party

When everyone is seated at the table, take the napkin and unfold it on your lap with the crease folded towards you. The hostess pours the tea and always ensures that each guests teacup is full. Then you offer the milk, sugar or lemon.

When pouring your guests tea, make sure you don’t pour multiple cups at the same time and pass several cups at a time. The pourer should hold the teacup and saucer in their left hand and can ask their guests if they like their tea strong or weak, and then ask if they want sugar or milk with it.

Once the tea is poured, wherever you are, at home, someones house, make sure that you don’t make a loud noise when stirring. Make sure you stir gently. Don’t stir in a circle (to avoid clanging), so move the teaspoon in a small arch back and forth, so not to make a noise.

Once finished stirring, do NOT put the teaspoon on the table, make sure you put the teaspoon on the saucer on the right hand side behind the china cup. That is the proper etiquette – whatever the culture is.

Number One Rule

Don’t lift your pinky (People think this is the proper way of etiquette but it is actually NOT). In social settings it is actually considered rude and in British Etiquette especially it is best to curl your pinky finger in. The correct way is to make sure your thumb and index finger meet in the handle.

high-tea-etiquette-1

and when you have finished your cake, make sure you dab your mouth with a napkin (not wipe!)

Tea Sandwiches must have their crusts cut off and can be presented either in a rectangular or triangular way. I also just learnt that the Royal Household prefers to have them cut in small squares, and (That’s the way I like it! hehe) They can also be eaten with your hands, not cutlery.

And then you can have your scones……

Spoon a dollop of cream, or your jam onto the edges of your plate.

Spread just enough of a bit of jam and cream onto the scone with your butter knife, and enjoy! It is nice to take a sip of tea between each bite.

You can learn how to use the Basics of learning to eating a scone properly here.

If you are unsure on what sort of tea to buy, have a look at some loose leaf tea and tea bags on the T2 website. The gift cubes are only $14! If you haven’t read my previous post, I have recommended my new favourite tea!!! It is called “London Strand Earl Grey” – I have been drinking it every day!!!  It has bergamot and a hint of citrus, but tastes positively heavenly.

A Lady in London

Okay, girls! So, I have come across an extraordinary writer, Julie Falconer, on writing about travel, and well, especially London. If you have not read any of my previous posts, you might need to know the fact that I have gained a fascination for London, especially after watching the “Ladies of London” TV Show, and well, Kate Middleton basically lives there! I bought the novel, London by Edward Rutherford, but it is quite a challenging read for a novel! haha! I like the “upper class” attitude that Londoners have, and London Life just seems so……. sigh!…… Wonderful……

keep

So, this website is written by a Californian girl who moved to the UK, and is a TRAVEL writer and speaker. Her travel writing has also been featured in the National Geographic Intelligent Travel, Lonely Planet, Time Out and Metro! What a talented person she is!

This website is an AWARD-WINNING blog. You can read her story of how she became a blogger here. I think its an energetically stimulating change from finance to travel writing. I think it is EXCITING and impressive also that she works with BBC Travel showcasing her photos of London on their Instagram and Twitter accounts!

A Lady in London

a-lady-in-london

She has written over 400 posts on London itself!!!!! I could not believe that when I read that!!!! How amazing is that, girls? and additionally teaches one on one coaching for beginning bloggers which I would LOVE to do!!!!

I am going to focus on one article that appeals to me the most.

The Ultimate Travel Guide

I like how she breaks down each inscription on the best places to go to to eat, and have afternoon tea.All us girls love our afternoon high teas! and I like how she starts off with “When to visit London”. Click on “The Ultimate Travel Guide” link above to get all the best advice if you are planning that trip to London! I believe it has the easiest, and simple recommendations and she writes 6 essential items of what you should pack. I love reading other peoples advice on what to pack, because travelling is one of the most exhilarating  things in life! When I went to Mandurah in January I was very basic, and sometimes being basic is the prime way to go!

Summer Packing List for London – This is a great list to help you get packing for your holiday, incase you are not sure on what to pack when it comes to looking more Londonish!

She bought a Long Champ Le Pilage tote bag, which Kate Middleton had on her graduation day! Having a bag like this is spacious, and is the best for a carry bag because it is lightweight, and fits basically everything.

longchamp-le-pliage-large-tote-bag-profile

There’s a section on Events and Festivals, and of course when you go travelling overseas you want to attend things that involve fun and entertainment. I can’t wait to go to the Chelsea Flower Show one day!! It is one of the most popular events held in London. EVERYONE knows of it!!!!

chelsea-flower-show

I have been told that the best time to go is in June/July because summer there is just sensational! But would love to experience September for the annual orchestral classical music concert because I have always been a music fanatic! I love singing, and classical music and recently downloaded “A Midsummer Nights Dream: Wedding March” and the Best of British Composers album which you can find on I Tunes!!! On top of that, I have always wanted to attend the Royal Albert Hall where MANY famous people have performed!

A Lady in London does a whole segment on “Sight seeing”. Of course I have to start with Buckingham Palace. I recently spoke to someone that just got back from London and she just did a tour in there, and I was JUST jealous of her as that is my NUMBER ONE item on my list!!! and the museums!!! My!!! I was recently talking about how I had to do a little discussion post on museums for library studies, and my choice was, and will be, The British Museum. What I found thought – provoking was there were these Celtic coins discovered recently after being hidden for 2000 years! The exhibitions are riveting, and I have only seen whats on the website! I can’t wait to ACTUALLY be there!!! and hear and discover ancient history.

the-british-museum-166907

Julie also said that Hampton Court Palace is worth a visit and Strawberry Hill House looks enchanting!!!! Gardens and parks are the way to go and Hyde Park is one of the most known.

Now, as for restaurants, I am not a Londoner, but she has organised a list of:

Seven restaurants you have to try for Weekday breakfast.  It is a fantastic list detailing each establishment. She does it so well.

coffee-breakfast-in-london

Afternoon Teas – Surprisingly, Fortnum and Mason isn’t mentioned, but each one listed looks stately and refined!

Also, read her article on 6 Coffee Shops she can’t live without! There are numerous articles on the website, but this takes the cake! I can’t live without my morning coffee!! and I can’t wait to check these places out!!!! The article is just unbelievable, and PLEASE DO NOT FORGET to read up on An Expat’s Guide to British Tea Culture. It just has it all!!!!!

Speaking of tea, I have to share with you my new discovery!!! This week I noticed at the supermarket the “London Strand Earl Grey” by Twinings. BEST tea I have ever tasted once mixed with milk and sugar!!!!

london-strand-tea

Now for the BEST detail of all!!! The best places to shop!!!!

She fixed on the London markets, but my eyes popped when I saw the bookstore section!!! Plus she has done another article on a “Guide for the best places for books” and said that Daunt Books is one of her favourite bookstores she has visited. It looks soooo welcoming, and is a great choice of meandering through.

daunt-books-marylebone-01

I can’t WAIT to check out Foyles because it is one of Londons OLDEST bookstores which I find fascinating considering what I am studying IS Library Studies. I can imagine myself in there AAALLLL day!!! with coffee in hand, and browsing through every single book there is!

Choosing where to stay in London, you have sooooo many suburbs to choose from. London is so vast, and I am still learning about certain suburbs from watching either 60 Minute Makeover or Homes Under the Hammer which I absolutely LOVE!!!! I have become addicted to those two particular shows for afternoon watching.

I like how she recommended the Cotswolds as I particularly have taken an interest since buying the Britain magazines in Merredin, Western Australia. Like she say’s, “it seems all perfectly charming” and it seems like the scenery is breathtakingly beautiful and magical.

At the end of the post, she challenges the reader for tips. If you have been, hop on over to her website, or comment on my website, so people can see and observe some awesome NEW advice! There is no such thing as too much information!!! Maybe share a bit of your travels, where you have been lately, or an adventure you remember growing up!

I am also captivated by the thought that she also wrote a book called “Blogging Basics: How to create a Successful Blog and build a loyal following“. I know what I am buying with my next pay!!!!

and… some exciting news!!! She is coming to Australia!!!!! I can’t WAIT to see her reviews on where she travels here.

Don’t forget to follow her on Instagram

Crafting and producing a blog

computer%20and%20flowers

I have had quite a few people recently ask me how I started a blog, people that want to start but don’t know HOW. I don’t really have a “step by step” program but a couple of handy tips, and lots of articles to share with you.

To be totally honest, when I first started my Instagram account I started having a fascination of following UK Beauty and Fashion bloggers and people that I loved what kind of photos they were posting on Instagram.

For example, I follow “The Rollinson London“, as he posts ‘exquisite’ material and I love the places and things he posts as it is just, well, ‘exquisite’. I have become a MASSIVE fan of his and the more posts I see, the more I want to visit the UK, and well, London! So, follow Nathan at http://therollinson.london/, and you will totally not be disappointed, and the material is just divine!

rollinson-london

The UK bloggers I follow are on my “Top 10 Favourite Bloggers” post.

So, there are a number of material and pieces online that teaches you how to start up your website.

There is a FREE Beginner WordPress E-Course on how to start a WordPress blog in just 15 minutes, through “The Blog Stylist” – an outstanding website written by Bree, who is the editor in chief. It gives an in -depth blogging course for beginners! It also teaches the difference between wordpress.com and wordpress.org and “Top 10 lessons in naming your blog”.

So when I was following these UK Bloggers I stumbled upon Word Press and basically just followed the prompts.

I already had my signature name on Instagram and when I signed up on WordPress I just put my website link in my profile, so people can just simply click and be navigated to my website. I chose a “New York” theme but eventually I want to dream BIGGER and create a unique theme.

You can buy themes for your website on www.bluchic.com.

bluchic-slide02

For example, I love the “Olivie” theme because it is pretty, pink and girlie and my kind of theme! So, select a theme that expresses your kind of personality and what exemplifies your character. I have my own idea for the layout and I absolutely LOVE the Olivie theme, so will be upgrading when I can! Most themes are $79.

There is an article by Thirteen Thoughts called “Resources for bloggers“, a beauty and lifestyle blog, and for when you start up, it is an article called “How to take your blog to the next level, which has inspired me to want to research NEW topics and write down more and MORE ideas!!!

blog-laptop-ideas

I have very high organisational skills and like to collate information and bring together a whole piece of something that would inspire other people to want to do the same thing!

I have always worked in an office, either as a Receptionist or Administration Assistant, so I have become completely savvy with computers and technology, and I may have said it before! I love typing. It is my strength and I intend to continue doing so for as long as I can.

Everything is a work-in-progress and I am still learning. As they say, you can never stop learning. Finding your niche is always a work-in-progress and here is an excellent article on “Finding your blogging niche” by Elle and Co.

findingyourbloggingniche_4helpfultipsforidentifyingyournicheandsettingyourblogapart-elleco

It will help you get your business or blog together and teach you to be creative and use your mind to create admirable quality content. If you have a love for reading and writing, then I believe it will be easier for you to get it together and create a gorgeous blog for your readers!

I would say the best content on creating your blog is found on “Resources for Bloggers“.

There are a number of articles on tips on “How to start a blog” and because I like being organised I find the section on Productivity and Organisation has the BEST articles on planning and blogging consistently.

If you want a successful blog, the best thing to do is google things like, “how to start a blog”, or “the best blog post ideas”. I did this to expand on my ideas, And the inspiration will come to you when you start reading other peoples blogs or posts!

i-am-very-busy-blog

Get Creative

For example, I am a very creative thinker and I like to have a nice ring to my titles, such as “Best Beauty Buys”. Every word starts with the same letter and I like to come up with a thoughtful title. Titles grab the reader and choosing the right words is the key.

Brainstorm ideas and read magazines like I do! I get all my main inspiration from a LOT of reading magazines or going on magazine wesbites, like In Style. It gives you a creative flow!

Ask yourself questions

What grabs me when I look at someone’s blog?

What is it that keeps me coming back to their blog?

Always ask yourself something, so that it gives you an idea of WHY you want people to read your blog.

Don’t forget to write a description or create an “About” page to explain why you created the blog. People like to see a reason and what kind of topics you like to cover.

Head on over to my “About” page to see an example.

10-commandments-of-blogging

I hope these ideas and guidelines give you motivation to start your own blog and compose to some degree what you are passionate about. Being enthusiastic about a particular topic is KEY because the more you research, the more you have to talk about it! People love to hear more and more about what they like!

So, download the “WordPress” app on your phone, that’s how I started, or get onto a computer at the library or use your MAC laptop or computer, and begin a new project that could change your life endlessly. You could also search the internet for “Blogging Workshops“. There are lots of workshops in Melbourne, Sydney and Perth! When I move to Perth, that is on my “to-do” list, as I want to expand my ideas, and further my blogging life!

Happy blogging!

loveheart
