Simple and Easy Ways to Decorate Around a TV

Even though television sets are less bulky than they used to be, designing around them is as tricky as ever. Making the TV visible from every point in the room without actually making it the focal point is never easy, so we bring you a few simple and easy ideas to decorate around the TV so that it’s perfectly incorporated into your room’s design and décor.

Hang shelves

A great way to diminish the impact the TV has in a room is by displaying things around it and drawing attention away from it. The easiest way to do so is by getting shelves and placing them around. Simple tiered shelves which are wider than the TV set are a great solution for displaying your collectibles. You can also pick smaller shelves and level them with your TV set, or you can even place your TV set on a specially designed bookcase. Some of these bookcases also have a sliding panel which will allow you to ‘hide’ your TV when you’re not using it.

Accessorize as much as you can

If you feel like your TV overpowers the entire room, you can try ‘fighting’ it with an unusual tactic. Attack the black box from all sides by surrounding it with different colourful accessories: frames, lamps, decorative plates, plants, etc. You can even add bold touches below and hang colourful tablecloths or decorations underneath. This way, your TV will become just another accessory instead of the focal point in the room.

Paint the wall black

If you don’t really like the idea of adding things around your TV, but would still like to keep it out of the centre of attention (at least when it’s turned off), you can try painting the wall black. This way, when it’s turned off, the TV will become just another element of the wall, unnoticeable until turned on. This is a good solution for living rooms with elegant furniture, as everyone’s attention will be drawn to them instead to the TV. If you aren’t really into painting the wall black, you can pick dark wallpapers instead.

Get a TV cabinet

If you’re looking for a way to conceal your TV and draw everyone’s focus elsewhere, you can try getting a TV cabinet. This is an especially good solution in bedrooms, as in the bedroom, the focus should be on the bed, rather than the TV. Both the cabinetry and the TV should be as unobtrusive as possible. If you struggle to find the perfect piece for your room, you can always hire a carpenter to build you a piece which will fit perfectly into your room.

Make a gallery around it

You can make a stylish gallery around your TV; all you need are identical frames and some skill to make sure they are hanged with precision. You can hang them so that they make a special geometric shape: a square, a circle, a rectangle or even a heart. If you’re hoping to colour-coordinate, you should opt for black and white photos and matching frames, but if you’re willing to experiment, adding splashes of colour to your room will work too.

Frame it!

On the other hand, if you want to draw attention to your TV, you can try making it as pretty as a picture – literally. Have a carpenter make a custom frame for it and colour it with bright, bold colours so that it matches the rest of your furniture or your curtains. Keep in mind that this can only be done with a wall-mounted TV, so don’t hesitate to call professionals in TV installation from Sydney to help you install the TV and make sure everything is fine.

It’s never easy to decorate your room so that it looks like your TV belongs right there, but it is possible. Think about the effect you want to achieve, whether you want to draw attention away from the TV or to hide it completely, and try to put your ideas into action with the help of a professional decorator.

My “Grown Up” Christmas List

Generally, every girl has a ‘wish list’ when it comes to Christmas. My current one is expanding, and I have been online more than I ever have been in my life!!! Even if it’s not on budget, I still am tempted to just browse, and add to a “WISH” list in my MS Word, so that I can refer to it when I am at home.

According to “The Age”, Australia is to spend 8.8 billion on Christmas presents this year!! With more than half of it spending on credit/store cards. I couldn’t believe the statistics! Now, that is why I got rid of my credit card. Been there, done that! I had one when I was in Melbourne and it was so easy to spend on things whenever you want, however you want. This year I decided not to go down that road, and try and save as much as I can to do the things I love and want in 2017, so I can pursue and follow my dreams.

So, here is my ‘grown up christmas list’ that will probably be on my list for the next year too!

Regency Inspirational Romance

I hoped to have read the list of 20 books in My Book Collection, but because of the whole move from Merredin to Scarborough it’s been too busy to just sit down and take the time to read, except for today….. I hardly had anything to do, so I pulled out a book that I had my eye on for months and I am completely taken by this one, because it is set in the Regency Period. I particularly like the period in the early 19th century because it was followed by the Victorian Period and was during the reign of King George IV.

Inspirational Quotes to live by

“Every woman deserves the chance to realise her God given potential.”

Life skills is quality. Education is attaining. As women, we have to realise our full potential and need to strive for superiority and excellency. If we utilise our mental ability and engage within our communities, we can do more and above and beyond than what we ever dreamed of.

“You have to be true to yourself.

You have to be enough in touch with who you are and what you want, how you want to live and what’s important to you, to make your decisions based on that.”

Always aim high, work hard, and care deeply about what you believe in. And, when you stumble, keep faith. And when you’re knocked down, get right back up and never listen to anyone who says you can’t or shouldn’t go on.”

Hilary Clinton

How to survive as a girl in the men’s world

featuredThere is a double standard, obviously. We have all either experienced it, or have seen it. There is a deep-set of cultural, psychological views that are manifest through this double standard… Some of these attitudes persist, and if they persist in as open, and in many ways transformational society as ours is in the 21st century, you know how deep they are.

  • Hillary Clinton

What Mrs Hillary has so relevantly observed (see the quote above) stands strong and true as a modern-day Antigona caught in the winds of gender disputes. However, not all gender battles have to turn into wars; some of them may as well be competitive skirmishes leading into a joined future filled with tolerance, respect and love.

What needs to happen in both girls’ and boys’ worlds is that they need to become aware of each other’s strengths and weaknesses, and instead of using them as weapons to conquer one another, they should use them to build stronger and more meaningful relationships. And, in this togetherness, they both need to put their guards down a little.

This time around, we’re talking about some key points that will help girls fit into the boys’ world (and maybe even love it in the process):

Staying true to yourself

I have recently been thinking a lot about what and how young girls think and do and act to fit in a world of boys, friendship, and closeness of peers.

I don’t know everything that goes on in the world, because I lived a pretty sheltered life myself, but I have a heart to reach out to girls that go through either cyber-bullying, peer pressure, and fights that go on in a circle of friends.

I like to stick to basics, and sticking to basics is the best way to go if you want to lead a simple, care – free life.

My top priority in staying true to myself is to:

  • Be a lady of quality
