Do your part: Coronavirus + Social Conscience

Do your part: Coronavirus + Social Conscience

Do your part: Coronavirus + Social Conscience. Learn how YOUR decisions can SAVE LIVES. About seven weeks ago, I was considering skipping my friend’s birthday party. It won’t be more than 10-12 people, I thought, shouldn’t be too bad. This was before everything was “shut down” and every other word in most conversations was “virus.” I’ve been following international news about coronavirus almost obsessively, since the beginning of the year. My anxiety levels were through the roof. The minute we pulled up to the restaurant, I wanted to turn around and go back home. We eventually walk inside, and the place is packed. Throughout the entire hour and a half that we stayed, I felt almost as if I was going to drop dead right there on the floor, at any given minute. I’ve always been a germaphobe, always found large crowds to trigger feelings of both anxiety and claustrophobia. I mean… add a possibility of an infectious disease to the equation, and things can get bad, quickly. So, we’re sitting at the table waiting for the birthday girl to arrive. All I see are people dancing, bumping into each other, touching. You really don’t realize how much you touch […]

9 Self-Care Practices for the Mind

9 Self-Care Practices for the Mind

What is your biggest challenge when it comes to practicing self-care? For me, it’s always been embracing self-care practices for the mind. Caring for your body is much easier than caring for your mind and spirit. We often avoid facing our feelings, fears, and emotions. Why? Well, because facing them can feel very uncomfortable, even intimidating. Other times, we simply don’t want to deal with some of the things we feel. I know that I don’t always love being alone with my thoughts and feelings and in the past, I’d get lost in distractions and noise, just to avoid facing them. And, to be honest, it’s not all that difficult to do. Our days are filled with noise, deadlines, chores, always being in a hurry. We also often overcommit, sometimes we refuse to let things go. Keeping all those thoughts and emotions bottled up is a defense mechanism, but sooner or later, they always end up pouring out. As I mentioned in this post, this is something that I want to let go of this year. One of my goals is to come back to the place of peace and mental clarity. To do that, I’m revisiting some of the self-care […]

Lovin’ Lately

The following content contains referral links and or PR/Gifted products (*). Read my disclosure policy for more info. I know that we’re just now getting that true, winter weather. I can’t help but daydream about Spring already. Using my favorite Spring fragrance never fails to put a smile on my face and makes me feel like warm weather is just around the corner. Fresh Beauty’s Cannabis Santal is one of those fragrances, with wild strawberry, rose and vanilla musk. I have a lot of love for unisex scents- especially ones that are such a good mix of musky and fruity notes, like this one.  Jo Malone’s Peony & Blush Suede is another current favorite that I can’t seem to get enough of, as is AnOther 13 by Lel Labo. AnOther 13 has woody ambery, moss and musk notes and it’s one of the most beautiful scents I’ve ever used. I really do wish that the scent was more lasting though. Before I got the bottle, I went through many, many samples and for some reason, those were a lot more long-lasting. It’s an absolutely gorgeous and unique scent, unlike anything else I’ve ever used, but I do wish that it lasted throughout […]

Tips for Adding Vintage Style to Your Home

Tips for Adding Vintage Style to Your Home

Vintage style is one of the most popular decorating styles because it makes your home feel more inviting and welcoming. We like to add antique décor and family memorabilia to their home in order to create a connection to their roots. This is a very efficient and affordable way to decorate your home, especially if you love following trends and keeping up with the latest updates. This trend is huge this season and no matter what your decorating style is, you’ll love introducing vintage details to your interior. Since this style can be tricky and there are a lot of traps that can lead to kitsch, there are some rules you need to follow. Let this list be your guide through the process of creating a truly vintage home. Where to find vintage décor? Even though many stores have vintage-inspired furniture, decorations and everything you’ll need to transform your home, these aren’t the only options. If you want to buy everything new, find stores that have furniture made from dark wood, leather and other materials that are specific for vintage furniture. Be aware that these items are usually pricier than others, so plan your shopping wisely. If you want to find some authentic items, though, visit your local markets, garage sales, Ebay, Facebook marketplace and antique shops. The third and the least expensive option is to use the furniture you already have and just give it a makeover. By painting your coffee table, adding some details to your kitchen cabinets and reupholstering the furniture, you too can have vintage pieces in your home without spending a fortune. Colour scheme You’d be surprised with the variety of colours you can find in this style, and this is probably one of its biggest advantages. Different colour choices will help you highlight the aesthetics of the room in question. You could play with some vibrant shades and add a dash of fun and freedom into your home, thus letting everyone know that you like to take risks – just be careful not to turn your home into a rainbow because just one extra colour can really ruin everything. On the other hand, this style also welcomes dark hues which really accentuate the richness of wood that’s one of the main materials used in vintage interiors. Of course, you can’t forget patterns, including the polka dot which is the most popular choice that can be implemented into everything from pillows and bedding to walls and decorations. Retro additions When choosing retro details for your interior, try to go big and small at the same time. A big chandelier or retro style pendant is a typical vintage addition and it can be incorporated into the living room, hallway or even above your dining table. Apart from that, you can use an old picture frame and a mirror, and even give it a new metallic look to really accentuate the lines and the texture of the edges. You can transform any modern interior and make it vintage by adding a wooden barn door which will fit perfectly into this style. To round up the design, use dark wood for an additional storage unit in your living room that can easily become the focal point and something everyone will admire. It’s the pieces like these that truly give your home a soul and a sense of comfort. Material guide Apart from colours, materials play a significant role in every style and the same goes for vintage too. This style prefers natural materials over artificial ones, and the difference is easy to spot. Of course, wood is the number one material and you should use it whenever you can. Another great material that needs to be included is leather, but you can always go for faux leather if you’re against using the real deal. You don’t have to exaggerate; placing a big and cosy leather chair by the window will be just fine, especially for all those who love reading. Add some fluffy pillows and a blanket to make it more stylish and it will be the perfect resting area in any room in the house. To top it all off, use natural materials in your bedroom. Everything from organic cotton will not only look great, but it’ll be a perfect way to achieve a nice flow throughout the house. A stylish jute rug for the hallway can be found in different colours to match the rest of the design. Incorporating vintage design into your home isn’t that hard, and when you do so, you’ll realise why more and more people are doing the same. There’s something in those historical elements and you need to discover the story behind every piece. If you’re still not sure whether you like this style or not, just start simple and renovate one room. You’ll surely get hooked on this look in a matter of days and will love how quickly it overpowers any other interior style.

5 Common Hat Wearing Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

5 Common Hat Wearing Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

Did you know that the hat sales industry revenue is more than $2 billion a year? This number speaks volumes when it comes to why people love wearing hats. They are versatile, stylish, and protective. When you wear a hat, it says a lot about you. Consider it a fashion accessory that shows off your personality. However, when you wear a hat, you want to avoid familiar hat wearing mistakes. Some people, however, may struggle to wear a hat the right way. Read on to learn how to wear hats in style. Too Small or Too Large for Your Head It can be a difficult mistake to avoid, as everyone’s head is different in size. However, there are a few things you can keep in mind when selecting a hat. First, make sure you know your hat size. You can do this by measuring the circumference of your head with a tape measure. Second, try the hat on before you buy it to ensure it is a good fit. Third, pay attention to the hat’s sizing chart to ensure you select the correct size for your head.  Does Not Compliment Your Face Shape If you have a round face, choose a hat with a brim that angles down to elongate your face. If you have a long face, look for a hat with a soft, round brim to balance out your features. And if you have an oval face, you’re lucky – almost any hat style will look great on you. It is important also to know the different types of hats. If you are a woman, there is one type of hat that fits you. A boho hat can actually fit with all styles, if you are interested, find a boho hat here. Does Not Match Your Outfit It can be a fashion disaster and make you look like you don’t know what you’re doing. To avoid this mistake, make sure that your hat compliments your outfit. If you’re wearing a casual outfit, choose a simple hat. A hat can be a great addition to your outfit, but only if it complements the rest of your clothes. If you’re not sure whether a hat goes with your outfit, err on the side of caution and don’t wear it. Not Properly Secured to Your Head It can be a problem if you are wearing a hat that is not fitted correctly or if you are not using the correct type of hatband. Make sure that your hat is properly fitted. It means that it should be snug but not too tight. Use the correct type of hatband. The band should be made of a material that will not slip, such as grosgrain. Make sure that your hat is securely fastened to your head. Wearing a Dirty Hat A dirty hat can make you look sloppy and leave your head feeling itchy and uncomfortable. If you often sweat, wash your hat regularly to keep it clean. Another way to avoid wearing a dirty hat is to keep a spare hat on hand to change into if your hat becomes dirty during the day. Avoiding The Hat Wearing Mistakes You can rock a hat like a pro with a bit of care. If you want to improve your hat game, avoid making these familiar hat wearing mistakes. Stick to clean, classic styles that complement your outfit. Don’t forget to browse our site for all of your fashion needs.

8 Trends Parents Should Keep An Eye On

8 Trends Parents Should Keep An Eye On

As a parent, it’s essential that you keep an eye on emerging trends, statistics, and information. Keeping yourself informed about topics relevant to your children will help you to be a better and more educated parent. But how are you supposed to keep an eye on trends? The most effective way of doing this is to subscribe to a magazine or journal that provides parents with useful information and parenting tips because magazines and journals dedicated to parenting are more likely to learn about concerning and intriguing trends first. Here are eight trends parents should keep an eye on at the moment: Autism Autism cases are rising around the world. Symptoms usually manifest before the age of four. It’s a good idea to view current autism statistics and facts if you suspect that your child could be suffering from the condition so that you can monitor and potentially get them treatment if needs be. Experts have said that autism cases aren’t growing because there is an ‘autism epidemic’ but rather because healthcare professionals are becoming more knowledgeable about the condition and are better able to recognize symptoms in children, which is increasing positive diagnoses. Anxiety A trend that’s very alarming is the increase in anxiety cases among young people. During the pandemic, healthcare professionals went as far as to say that there was a second, silent pandemic, and that was the mental health crisis. If you suspect that your child is suffering from anxiety, then it’s essential that you get them help. Anxiety can significantly stunt a child’s performance at school and can become very problematic for them as adults, preventing them from being able to build and establish healthy relationships and function in society. Anxiety is treatable, as long as it’s recognized. Depression Depression, like anxiety, is increasing in the United States and in the rest of the world. Again, during the pandemic, depression cases increased significantly. Some experts believe that the reason cases of depression are rising is because most people have very little human contact anymore. Students are studying from home in some cases, adults work remotely, and everybody is glued to their phones and computers. It’s not hard to see why social isolation might lead to depression. Recognizing your child’s depression could save their life and help to cure them of the condition as early as possible before it does serious damage to them. Drug Use Drug use is a trend that’s becoming a lot more prevalent among young people in the United States, sadly. One of the main reasons that young people are becoming addicted to drugs is because of their place in the media. A lot of musicians and film stars talk openly about their own drug use, particularly Cannabis, and this encourages young people to want to try it for themselves. Drug use in children can lead to very serious problems in later life, which is why it is important to nip it in the bud as early as possible. Cannabis is the most commonly used drug among young people, but its use can lead to further exploration into other drugs. Social Media As a parent, it’s always a good idea to stay ahead of social media trends. Some social media trends can be very dangerous, resulting in children injuring themselves. The best way to stay ahead of social media trends is to follow a parenting blog dedicated to the subject. Alternatively, you can use social media yourself, but to really find out about what trends are popular among young people on social media, you would have to spend a lot of time browsing social media. Children’s Sports It is a good idea to stay ahead of sporting trends. Different trends are popular with different generations. For millennials, basketball was very popular, for example. If you want your child to be popular, fit, and healthy, then getting them involved in sports is a very good idea. Try to find out which sports are most popular, so that you can enrol your child in a team or classes. You could outright ask your child which sport is the most popular, as well, although their answer might depend on what they personally find interesting rather than what’s popular. Educational Institutions In terms of schooling for your child, it’s a good idea to monitor educational statistics so that you can avoid sending them to a school that’s underperforming. If you believe that your child is gifted but you are on a budget, then you could consider applying for a scholarship for your child. Scholarships are offered to gifted children whose parents aren’t able to pay for private schooling independently. Sending your child to a very good school was increase their chances of achieving success later in life, so it is a good idea. One of the best ways to find out about good local schools is to check out online reviews and speak to other parents. You can also contact your local area’s school monitoring body and ask them which school ranks best out of all other local schools. Clothing If you want your child to be happy, then it’s a good idea to stay ahead of clothing trends and buy them clothes that they are actually going to like. It’s very common for parents to buy their children clothes they don’t want. You should always ask your child for their opinion before you buy them any clothes. Another way to get an idea of what sort of clothes your child wants is to take time to learn about the kind of music that they listen to, in addition to checking out the clothes that their friends wear. With all of the above said, it is very important to make sure that you don’t spoil your child. When you are buying your child’s clothing, it is very easy to spoil them. Spoiling your child can result in them developing behavioral problems later in life, which you likely don’t want. If you want to be a responsible and good parent, then you need to keep an eye on the trends that have been outlined in this post. Keeping these trends in mind will help you to make better decisions about your child and the choices that you make for them.
