I have been travelling through the South West of Western Australia all this week and I have been absolutely loving it!!!!
I finally visited Albany where my granny lived and went to the Memorial Service with some friends…. I traveled from Merredin to Albany with a lady called Judy Middleton and we had a blast on the drive on the way to there.
When we arrived at Albany we stayed at a motel called Sleep Well. Fairly good sized rooms and we drove all over Albany. On the day of the Memorial Service I visited a church, St Johns and the step into the church was dedicated to an ancestor of mine!! Albany holds a very special place in my heart and we also went to the National Anzac Centre where Prince Charles and Camilla will visit tomorrow. Sadly, I miss them, but I’m not totally shattered as one day I may get to meet them. There is a link with my family, the Spencer’s with them apparently but I’m still finding out more and more about my heritage.
Speaking of heritage, I visited Strawberry Hill Farm where Sir Richard Spencer settled. He is an ancestor of mine also, but sadly the tourist guide didn’t know the history of him much!!!! I am going to read my granny’s book, The Way to St. Werburghs when I get a chance. There is so much to learn and I am getting more and more fascinated by the minute!!!!
Walking through the gardens was just magical, and I bought a Strawberry Hill Farm brochure that talks about the history of the dwelling.
The rooms were quaint and there was quite a bit to explore!!! There were old machines in another room and the dining room was just exquisite.
I totally recommend you to check out my “family home”!!! If you want to read more on the history of the Egerton-Warburtons, read the above named book that my granny, Dawn Crabb wrote. If you love history, this you will love!!!
